Babymoon Couples

For couples expecting their first baby, babymoon vacations on Cape Cod are becoming increasingly popular. The notion of taking one last trip as a couple, before a new baby arrives and changes everything, has become one of the hottest travel trends of recent years, and Cape Cod is, in many ways, the ideal destination for expectant couples.

What exactly is a babymoon? (Yes, Michael needed to have it explained to him, too). It is a “last hurrah” vacation that provides an opportunity for moms and dads-to-be to relax, rejuvenate and reconnect with each other one last time before all the sleepless nights, stresses and worries of parenthood kick in for real.

Babymoons usually last two-to-four days (though week-long getaways are certainly not unheard of) and tend to be a little more indulgent than typical couples' vacations, as expectant parents enjoy one last chance to sleep in and be totally pampered with spa treatments, prenatal and couples massages, gourmet meals, gifts for baby and even late night milk and cookies.

And romance is often the order of the day, since babymooners surely know it may be quite a while before they have a chance to be a couple again once the baby arrives.

Cape Cod is a wonderful place for a babymoon because it offers many of the features that experts recommend couples should look for when planning their trips.

First of all, it's easily accessible, providing a plane-free trip for tens of millions of people who live in the northeastern United States. While long-distance air travel is certainly not forbidden for expectant mothers, Lisa Petrocelli, Publisher of babymoonguide.com recommends that the ideal babymoon should involve minimal travel time so as to avoid starting and ending the vacation with stressful journeys.

The added benefit of staying reasonably close to family, friends and caregivers is also no small consideration when choosing the ideal babymoon destination.

Secondly, Cape Cod is known for offering a wonderfully relaxing environmnent. That is, after all, the main purpose. A vacation to a bustling city filled with side-trips and tours is not necessarily the ideal destination. On Cape Cod, you can take a quiet romantic walk on the beach almost any time of year, sit by a tranquil pond, and truly unwind before the baby arrives.

Experts also recommend that expectant couples check out the nearest medical centers just in case the need arises. Well, as a couple whose two children were born at Falmouth Hospital and Jordan Hospital respectively, we can certainly attest to the high quality of prenatal care that is available on or near Cape Cod.

The Cape Cod travel industry has quickly latched on to this growing trend, and many resorts and B&Bs offer special packages that are specifically tailored to expectant parents. The Palmer House Inn in Falmouth, the High Pointe Inn in West Barnstable and the Cape Codder Resort in Hyannis are just a few of the Cape Cod properties that offer babymoon packages.

In this part of the site we'll introduce you to the best that Cape Cod has to offer babymooners. Check back often as we'll be adding more info in the weeks and months ahead.
