Hyannis or Chatham?

by Justin
(Virginia)

Please Help! We love your website but it has left us more confused as to where to stay! Currently we have reservations to stay at America's Best Value in Hyannis. We wanted to be around a bunch of restaurants, nightly music, shopping, and close to beaches.

It's just my wife and I and were looking to have a good time, especially at night (music not clubbin'), but we're more a bit more upscale...(not rich, we just like to look nice and go out). My wife is just worried now that we're staying in an area that might be a little more "dicey".

Can you please let us know if were staying in the right place? Chatham has some motels for a bit more a night, which we would pay if it was worth it for what were looking for. Please help, I don't want my wife to be disappointed. Thank you so very much.

We certainly wouldn't describe the area you're staying as "dicey". We've never stayed at America's Best Value but, from what we've heard it's exactly as the name suggests - excellent value for what you pay. The accommodations probably won't "knock your socks off" but it's clean, the people are friendly and the location is certainly excellent for the things you're looking for.

Hyannis Main Street has lots of shops and restaurants, a few of which have music after a certain hour. They're not "clubby" type places. And a few of them, though not all, are the type of places you would get dressed up for. And they're all within walking distance of where you'll be staying.

You're even within walking distance of the Cape Cod Melody Tent (although admittedly it's quite a long walk). Some of the shops are a little "tacky" (t-shirts, souvenirs, joke shops etc) but others are really quite nice. There are also some nice beaches in town and the water is quite warm.

If you re-book in Chatham, you'll certainly be in a more upscale town. But truth is, you could pay $30-50 a night more for a motel there and get exactly the same type of amenities. Chatham is quieter. There are certainly plenty of restaurants there, and more of them are of the upscale type where patrons are dressed for dinner.

But you won't find so much in the way of music venues. Shopping is good, and probably a little more upscale than Hyannis.

We can't tell you for certain what you should do, since we don't know you well enough to know exactly what you're looking for. But hopefully this information will help. We're assuming you'll be driving to the Cape so you'll be fairly mobile once you get here. We're talking about towns that are, maybe, 7-8 miles apart, so you'll certainly be in a position to visit Chatham, even if you're staying in Hyannis and vice-versa.

Hyannis is Wonderful
by: Justin

Well we arrived in Hyannis yesterday and are completely floored. This place is beautiful and amazing all in one! The motel is "ya get what ya pay for", but for sleeping it was worth the 100 bucks a night. I don't know where people stayed when we read some of the reviews but Hyannis is wonderful. It is EXACTLY what we were looking for. Were thinking of heading to Spankys tonight for some food and fun and maybe head to the Cape Cod Winery.

Seriously, thank you again for writing back. You quelled our fears that we were headed to the right place. We may never leave....
